Valerie Zhakenov Admitted, 1971, Kazakhstan. Education: Law Faculty of Kazakh State University; Ph.D. dissertation, Institute of State and Law, Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Training at Practicing Law Institute in New York, USA. Partner, Zhakenov & Partners (1991-now); Partner, Lesser Zhakenov & Newton (2000-2002). Member, Almaty Bar Association, 1992. Mr. Zhakenov is one of Kazakhstan’s leading court attorneys. He has represented numerous foreign investors in litigation in the Kazakhstani courts at all levels, as well as in international arbitration proceedings in London and Paris. Co-author of some Kazakhstani civil bills, including the Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Law "On Partnerships" of 1995; co-author of commentary to the Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 1998 and 2003. Previously he also acted as Deputy Chairman of the Arbitration Commission of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1993-1996); Lecturer, Adilet Higher Law School (1995-1997).
