Sergei L. Lazarev, a Senior Partner and Executive Director of Russin & Vecchi's L.L.C., International Legal Counsellors Russian Practice Group, is a 1983 graduate of the Law Faculty at the Moscow State University. In 1990 he defended his dissertation, “Arbitral Settlement of Interstate Disputes,” and earned a Ph.D. from the Law Faculty at the Moscow State University. Prior to joining in 1993 R&V Mr. Lazarev was Chief Legal Counsellor on International Trade at the Russian record company Melodiya. Mr. Lazarev has extensive experience in international commercial and corporate transactions.

An accomplished legal scholar, Mr. Lazarev served for ten years as a research scholar at the Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences (INION) at the Department of State and Law at the Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition to many articles, indexes of literature, and abstracts on the problems of state and law, international law, foreign policy and political science, he is the author of the book International Arbitration. Mr. Lazarev is a member of the Association of International law and a member of International Bar Association.

In 1992 Mr. Lazarev completed the international law courses at The Hague Academy of International Law in The Netherlands. In the same year, Mr. Lazarev was competitively selected to study in the United States at The George Washington University National Law Center under the Muskie Fellowship Program. Following completion of his studies in 1993, he practiced international and commercial law at a private firm in Washington, D.C. Since his return to Russia he has centered his practice on international investment transactions, including project structuring on behalf of foreign clients, corporate law and M&A, real estate, labour and employment law, dispute resolution, and energy and natural resources law. A native speaker of Russian, Mr. Lazarev is fluent in English.
